That is why Camino Health Center’s new clinic within allcove San Juan Capistrano (operated by the Wellness & Prevention Center) represents such an important step forward for youth health in South Orange County.
For more than 40 years, Camino Health Center has been a trusted healthcare home for families throughout our community, providing high-quality, compassionate care regardless of a person’s ability to pay or insurance status. Through its new presence at allcove San Juan Capistrano, Camino is extending that commitment into a space created specifically for young people ages 12 to 25.
This partnership is about far more than sharing a building. It reflects a whole-person model of care — one that recognizes the deep connection between a young person’s physical and emotional well-being, and treats them as inseparable parts of a healthy life.
At Camino’s clinic, youth have access to comprehensive primary care: annual well visits, evaluation and treatment of acute illness or injury, ongoing management of chronic conditions, laboratory testing, immunizations, and preventive health counseling.
The setting makes this care even more impactful.
Unlike a traditional medical office, allcove San Juan Capistrano was intentionally designed to be welcoming, approachable, and youth-centered. Alongside primary healthcare, young people can access mental health services, peer support, education and employment assistance, substance use counseling, family counseling, supportive social activities, and wellness programming — all under one roof.
Whether someone needs a sports physical, support for anxiety, help finding a job, or simply a safe place to talk, they can find coordinated care in one space rather than navigating multiple systems. For a 16-year-old juggling school, work, and family responsibilities — or a young adult without reliable transportation or insurance — that difference can determine whether they get care at all.
Since opening its doors, the drop-in center has been welcoming young people from across our community, and the early response affirms what we believed from the start: when care is convenient and designed around young people, they will use it.
This integrated approach reflects what healthcare professionals have long understood: physical health, mental health, education, family relationships, and future success are interconnected. By bringing these services together, Camino Health Center and allcove San Juan Capistrano make it easier for young people to seek help early, when intervention can have the greatest impact.
Just as importantly, this partnership helps reduce the stigma that too often surrounds healthcare and mental health.
